1 Le vin est un moqueur, la boisson forte est tumultueuse: et quiconque est trompé ainsi n’est pas sage.

 1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

2 La crainte du roi est comme le rugissement d'un lion: quiconque le provoque à la colère pèche contre sa propre âme.

 2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.

3 C'est un honneur pour un homme de cesser de se quereller: mais tout insensé s'en mêlera.

 3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

4 L’indolent ne labourera pas à cause du froid; par conséquent mendiera-t-il lors de la moisson, et n'aura rien.

 4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

5 Le conseil dans le cœur d'un homme est comme l’eau profonde; mais un homme de compréhension y puisera.

 5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

6 La plupart des hommes proclament chacun sa propre bonté: mais un homme fidèle, qui peut le trouver?

 6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

7 Le juste marche dans son intégrité: ses enfants sont bénis après lui.

 7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

8 Le roi qui siège sur le trône du jugement disperse tout mal de ses yeux.

 8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

9 Qui peut dire, J'ai rendu mon cœur net, je suis purifié de mon péché?

 9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

10 Divers poids, et diverses mesures, sont l’un comme l’autre en abomination au SEIGNEUR.

 10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

11 Même un enfant est connu par ses actions, si son œuvre est pure et si elle est droite.

 11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

12 L'oreille qui entend et l'œil qui voit, le SEIGNEUR les a faits c’est-à-dire tous les deux.

 12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

13 N'aime pas le sommeil, de peur que tu ne deviennes pauvre; ouvre tes yeux, et tu seras rassasié de pain.

 13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

14 Cela ne vaut rien, cela ne vaut rien, dit l'acheteur: mais lorsqu’il s'en est allé, alors il se vante.

 14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

15 Il y a de l'or et une multitude de rubis: mais les lèvres de la connaissance sont un bijou précieux.

 15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

16 Prends son vêtement qui est caution pour un étranger: et prends de lui un gage pour une femme étrangère.

 16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

17 Le pain de tromperie est doux à l'homme; mais ensuite, sa bouche sera pleine de gravier.

 17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

18 Chaque dessein est établi par le conseil: et avec un bon avis fais la guerre.

 18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

19 Celui qui va comme un rapporteur révèle les secrets: par conséquent ne te mêle pas avec celui qui flatte de ses lèvres.

 19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

20 Quiconque maudit son père ou sa mère, sa lampe sera éteinte dans l’obscurité la plus noire.

 20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

21 Un patrimoine peut être obtenu avec hâte au commencement; mais sa fin ne sera pas bénie.

 21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

22 Ne dis pas, Je rendrai le mal; mais attends le SEIGNEUR, et il te sauvera.

 22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

23 Les divers poids sont en abomination au SEIGNEUR; et une fausse balance n'est pas bonne.

 23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

24 Les allées et venues de l'homme sont du SEIGNEUR; comment un homme peut-il alors comprendre son propre chemin?

 24 Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

25 C'est un piège pour l'homme qui dévore ce qui est saint, et après avoir fait vœu de s’informer.

 25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.

26 Un roi sage disperse les immoraux, et apporte la roue sur eux.

 26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

27 L'esprit de l'homme est la bougie du SEIGNEUR, sondant toutes les parties intérieures du ventre.

 27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

28 Miséricorde et vérité préservent le roi: et son trône est maintenu par la miséricorde.

 28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

29 La gloire des jeunes gens est leur vigueur: et la beauté des hommes âgés sont les cheveux blancs.

 29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.

30 Les meurtrissures d’une blessure aseptisent le mal: de même les coups, les parties intérieures du ventre.

 30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
