1 Une bonne renommée est plutôt à choisir que la grande richesse, et la faveur affectueuse plutôt que l'argent et l'or.

 1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2 Le riche et le pauvre se rencontrent, le SEIGNEUR est le créateur de tous.

 2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

3 Un homme prudent voit venir le mal et se cache: mais les simplets passent outre et en sont punis.

 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4 Par l’humilité et la crainte du SEIGNEUR, sont richesses, et honneur, et vie.

 4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

5 Épines, et pièges sont sur le chemin des obstinés: celui qui garde son âme sera loin d’eux.

 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

6 Éduque un enfant selon le chemin qu’il doit prendre: et lorsqu'il sera âgé, il ne s'en écartera pas.

 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

7 Le riche domine les pauvres, et l’emprunteur est serviteur du prêteur.

 7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 Celui qui sème l'iniquité moissonnera la vanité: et le bâton de sa colère faillira.

 8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

9 Celui qui possède un œil généreux sera béni; car il donne de son pain au pauvre.

 9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 Renvoie le dédaigneux, et la contestation s'en ira; oui, querelle et outrage cesseront.

 10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

11 Celui qui aime la pureté de cœur, pour la grâce sur ses lèvres le roi sera son ami.

 11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

12 Les yeux du SEIGNEUR préservent la connaissance, et il renverse les paroles du transgresseur.

 12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

13 L’homme oisif dit, Il y a un lion dehors, je serai tué dans les rues.

 13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

14 La bouche des femmes étrangères est une fosse profonde: celui que le SEIGNEUR abhorre y tombera.

 14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

15 L’absurdité est liée au cœur d’un enfant; mais le bâton de la correction la conduira loin de lui.

 15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16 Celui qui opprime le pauvre pour augmenter sa richesse, et celui qui donne au riche, tomberont sûrement dans le manque.

 16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

17 Abaisse ton oreille, et écoute les paroles des sages, et applique ton cœur à ma connaissance.

 17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

18 Car c'est une chose agréable si tu les gardes en toi; elles seront de plus présentes sur tes lèvres.

 18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

19 Afin que ta confiance puisse être dans le SEIGNEUR, je te l’ai fait connaître ce jour, même à toi.

 19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

20 Ne t'ai-je pas écrit d’excellentes choses en conseils et en connaissance,

 20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

21 Afin que je puisse te faire connaître la certitude des paroles de vérité; afin que tu puisses répondre des paroles de vérité à ceux qui sont envoyés vers toi?

 21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

22 Ne vole pas le pauvre, parce qu'il est pauvre: n’oppresse pas non plus les affligés au portail:

 22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

23 Car le SEIGNEUR plaidera leur cause, et dépouillera l'âme de ceux qui les dépouillent.

 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

24 Ne sois pas l'ami d'un homme coléreux; et avec un homme furieux tu n’iras pas:

 24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25 De peur que tu n'apprennes ses agissements, et n’obtiennes un piège pour ton âme.

 25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26 Ne sois pas un de ceux qui serrent les mains, ni de ceux qui sont cautions pour des dettes

 26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

27 Si tu n'as pas de quoi payer, pourquoi prendrait-on ton lit de dessous toi?

 27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28 N’enlève pas l'ancien repère, lequel tes pères ont placé.

 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

29 Vois-tu un homme diligent dans ses affaires? il se tiendra devant les rois; il ne se tiendra pas devant des hommes modestes.

 29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
