Au chef musicien. Un Psaume de David, le serviteur du SEIGNEUR, qui adressa au SEIGNEUR les paroles de ce cantique, le jour où le SEIGNEUR le délivra de la main de tous ses ennemis et de la main de Saul. Et il dit:

 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,

1 Je t’aimerai, ô SEIGNEUR, ma vigueur.

 1 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.

2 Le SEIGNEUR est mon roc, et ma forteresse et mon libérateur; mon Dieu, ma vigueur, en qui je me confierai; mon bouclier, et la corne de mon salut, et ma haute tour.

 2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

3 Je ferai appel au SEIGNEUR, qui est digne d’être loué: ainsi je serai sauvé de mes ennemis.

 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

4 Les douleurs de la mort m’encerclaient, et les flots des hommes impies m’effrayaient.

 4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

5 Les douleurs de l’enfer m’encerclaient: les pièges de la mort me devançaient.

 5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.

6 Dans ma détresse, je fis appel au SEIGNEUR, et je criai vers mon Dieu: il entendit ma voix de son temple, et mon cri vint devant lui, c’est-à-dire jusqu’à ses oreilles.

 6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

7 Alors la terre fut secouée et trembla; les fondements aussi des collines se déplacèrent et furent secouées, parce qu’il était courroucé.

 7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

8 Il s’éleva une fumée de ses narines, et un feu de sa bouche dévora: des charbons en furent embrasés.

 8 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

9 Il courba aussi les cieux, et descendit: et l’obscurité fut sous ses pieds.

 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

10 Et il chevaucha sur un chérubin, et vola: oui, il vola sur les ailes du vent.

 10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.

11 Il fit de l’obscurité son lieu secret; son pavillon autour de lui était des eaux sombres et des nuages épais des cieux.

 11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

12 À la brillance qui était devant lui, ses nuages épais passèrent, des grêlons et des charbons de feu.

 12 At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

13 Le SEIGNEUR aussi tonna dans les cieux, et le Plus Haut fit retentir sa voix; des grêlons et des charbons de feu.

 13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.

14 Oui, il envoya ses flèches, et les dispersa; il lança des éclairs, et les mit en déroute.

 14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

15 Alors les lits des eaux apparurent, et les fondements du monde furent mis à découvert à ta répréhension, ô SEIGNEUR, au bruit du souffle de tes narines.

 15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

16 Il envoya d’en haut, il me prit, il me tira de nombreuses eaux.

 16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.

17 Il me délivra de mon robuste ennemi, et de ceux qui me haïssaient: car ils étaient trop robustes pour moi.

 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

18 Ils me devancèrent au jour de ma calamité: mais le SEIGNEUR fut mon appui.

 18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.

19 Il me mit aussi au large; il me délivra, parce qu’il se délectait en moi.

 19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

20 Le SEIGNEUR me rendit selon ma droiture; selon la pureté de mes mains m’a-t-il récompensé.

 20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

21 Car j’ai gardé les chemins du SEIGNEUR, et je ne me suis pas écarté immoralement de mon Dieu.

 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

22 Car tous ses jugements étaient devant moi, et je n’ai pas rejeté ses statuts.

 22 For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.

23 J’étais aussi intègre devant lui, et je me gardai de mon iniquité.

 23 I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.

24 Par conséquent le SEIGNEUR m’a récompensé selon ma droiture, selon la pureté de mes mains à sa vue.

 24 Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

25 Avec le miséricordieux tu te montreras miséricordieux; avec l’homme intègre, tu te montreras intègre;

 25 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

26 Avec le pur tu te montreras pur; et avec l’obstiné, tu te montreras obstiné.

 26 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.

27 Car tu sauveras le peuple affligé, mais tu abaisseras les regards hautains.

 27 For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.

28 Car tu allumeras ma bougie: le SEIGNEUR mon Dieu éclairera mon obscurité.

 28 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

29 Car par toi j’ai couru au travers d’une troupe; et par mon Dieu ai-je sauté par-dessus une muraille.

 29 For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

30 Quant à Dieu, son chemin est parfait: la parole du SEIGNEUR est éprouvée: il est un bouclier pour tous ceux qui se confient en lui.

 30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

31 Car qui est Dieu sinon le SEIGNEUR? Ou qui est un roc sinon notre Dieu?

 31 For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?

32 C’est Dieu qui me ceint de vigueur, et qui rend mon chemin parfait.

 32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

33 Il rend mes pieds comme des pieds de biches, et me place sur mes hauts lieux.

 33 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.

34 Il enseigne mes mains à faire la guerre, si bien qu’un arc d’acier est brisé par mes bras.

 34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

35 Tu m’as aussi donné l’écu de ton salut: et ta main droite m’a soutenu, et ta bonté m’a fait devenir grand.

 35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.

36 Tu as élargi mes pas sous moi, en sorte que mes pieds ne glissent pas.

 36 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

37 J’ai poursuivi mes ennemis, et je les ai rattrapés: et je ne suis pas revenu avant de les avoir consumés.

 37 I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.

38 Je les ai blessés si bien qu’ils n’étaient pas capables de se relever: ils sont tombés sous mes pieds.

 38 I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.

39 Car tu m’as ceint de vigueur vers la bataille: tu as soumis sous moi ceux qui se dressaient contre moi.

 39 For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.

40 Tu m’as aussi donné le cou de mes ennemis; afin que je puisse détruire ceux qui me haïssent.

 40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.

41 Ils crièrent, mais il n’y eut personne pour les sauver: ils crièrent même au SEIGNEUR, mais il ne leur répondit pas.

 41 They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.

42 Alors je les broyai menu comme la poussière face au vent: je les jetai au loin comme la saleté dans les rues.

 42 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.

43 Tu m’as délivré des querelles du peuple; et tu m’as mis à la tête des païens: un peuple que je n’ai pas connu me servira.

 43 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.

44 Aussitôt qu’ils entendront parler de moi, ils m’obéiront: les étrangers se soumettront à moi.

 44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.

45 Les étrangers déclineront, et seront effrayés hors de leurs lieux cachés.

 45 The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.

46 Le SEIGNEUR vit; et béni soit mon roc; et que le Dieu de mon salut soit exalté.

 46 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

47 C’est Dieu qui me venge, et qui me soumet les peuples.

 47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.

48 Il me délivre de mes ennemis: oui, tu m’élèves au-dessus de ceux qui se dressent contre moi: tu m’as délivré de l’homme violent.

 48 He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

49 Par conséquent je te remercierai, ô SEIGNEUR, parmi les païens, et je chanterai des louanges à ton nom.

 49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

50 Une grande délivrance donne-t-il à son roi; et montre miséricorde à son oint, à David et à sa semence à tout jamais.

 50 Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
