 Maschil of Asaph.

1 Prête l’oreille, ô mon peuple, à ma loi: inclinez vos oreilles aux paroles de ma bouche.

 1 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2 J’ouvrirai ma bouche en une parabole: je prononcerai les dires obscurs de jadis:

 2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

3 Lesquels nous avons entendus et connus, et que nos pères nous ont racontés.

 3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4 Nous ne les cacherons pas à leurs enfants, déclarant à la génération à venir les louanges du SEIGNEUR, et sa vigueur, et les merveilleuses œuvres qu’il a faites.

 4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

5 Car il établit un témoignage en Jacob, et assigna une loi en Israël, lesquels il commanda à nos pères de les faire connaître à leurs enfants:

 5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

6 Pour que la génération à venir puisse les connaître, à savoir, les enfants qui naîtraient; qui s’élèveraient et les déclareraient à leurs enfants:

 6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

7 Afin qu’ils puissent mettre leur espérance en Dieu, et n’oublient pas les œuvres de Dieu, mais qu’ils gardent ses commandements:

 7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8 Et qu’ils ne puissent pas être comme leurs pères, une génération entêtée et rebelle; une génération qui ne disposa pas son cœur correctement, et dont l’esprit ne fut pas ferme avec Dieu.

 8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

9 Les enfants d’Éphraïm, étant armés et portant l’arc, reculèrent au jour de la bataille.

 9 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

10 Ils ne gardèrent pas l’alliance de Dieu, et refusèrent de marcher selon sa loi;

 10 They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

11 Et ils oublièrent ses œuvres, et ses prodiges qu’il leur avait montrés.

 11 And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

12 De merveilleuses choses fit-il au vu de leurs pères, dans le pays d’Égypte, dans le champ de Zoan.

 12 Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

13 Il sépara la mer, et les fit passer au travers; et il fit se tenir les eaux comme en un amas.

 13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

14 Durant la journée aussi il les conduisait par un nuage, et toute la nuit par une lumière de feu.

 14 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

15 Il fendit les rocs dans le désert, et leur donna à boire comme si cela sortait des grandes profondeurs.

 15 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

16 Il fit aussi sortir des ruisseaux du roc, et fit s’écouler les eaux comme des rivières.

 16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

17 Et ils péchèrent encore plus contre lui en provoquant le plus Haut dans le désert.

 17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

18 Et ils tentèrent Dieu dans leur cœur en demandant de la nourriture selon leur convoitise.

 18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

19 Oui, ils parlèrent contre Dieu; ils dirent: Dieu peut-il pourvoir une table dans le désert?

 19 Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

20 Voici, il frappa le roc, si bien que les eaux jaillirent, et les ruisseaux débordèrent; peut-il donner du pain aussi? Peut-il procurer de la viande pour son peuple?

 20 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

21 Par conséquent le SEIGNEUR entendit cela, et fut courroucé: alors un feu fut embrasé contre Jacob, et la colère aussi s’éleva contre Israël;

 21 Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

22 Parce qu’ils ne crurent pas en Dieu, et ne se confièrent pas en son salut:

 22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

23 Bien qu’il ait commandé aux nuages d’en haut, et ouvert les portes du ciel,

 23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

24 Et qu’il ait fait pleuvoir la manne sur eux pour manger, et qu’il leur ait donné du maïs venant du ciel.

 24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

25 L’homme mangea le pain des anges: il leur envoya de la nourriture à satiété.

 25 Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.

26 Il fit souffler un vent d’Est dans le ciel: et par son pouvoir il amena le vent du Sud.

 26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

27 Il fit aussi pleuvoir sur eux de la viande comme de la poussière, et des volatiles à plumes comme le sable de la mer:

 27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

28 Et il les laissa tomber au milieu de leur camp, tout autour de leurs habitations.

 28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

29 Ainsi ils mangèrent et furent pleinement rassasiés: car il leur donna leur propre désir;

 29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

30 Ils ne furent pas aliénés de leur convoitise. Mais tandis que leur nourriture était encore dans leur bouche,

 30 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

31 Le courroux de Dieu vint sur eux, et il tua les plus gras d’entre eux, et abattit les hommes d’élite d’Israël.

 31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

32 Malgré tout cela ils continuèrent de pécher, et ne crurent pas à ses prodigieuses œuvres.

 32 For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

33 Par conséquent consuma-t-il leurs jours dans la vanité, et leurs années dans la difficulté.

 33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

34 Lorsqu’il les tua, alors ils le cherchèrent: et ils revinrent et s’enquirent de Dieu de bonne heure.

 34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

35 Et ils se souvinrent que Dieu était leur roc, et le Dieu élevé leur rédempteur.

 35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

36 Néanmoins ils le flattèrent avec leur bouche, et ils lui mentirent avec leur langue.

 36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

37 Car leur cœur n’était pas droit envers lui, ils n’étaient pas fermes non plus dans son alliance.

 37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

38 Mais lui, étant plein de compassion, pardonna leur iniquité, et ne les détruisit pas; oui, bien souvent détournait-il sa colère, et n’agitait pas tout son courroux.

 38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

39 Car il se souvenait qu’ils n’étaient que chair; un vent qui passe et ne revient pas.

 39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

40 Combien de fois le provoquèrent-ils dans le désert, et l’attristèrent-ils dans le lieu sauvage!

 40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

41 Oui, ils revinrent en arrière et tentèrent Dieu, et restreignirent le Seul Saint d’Israël.

 41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

42 Ils ne se souvinrent plus de sa main, ni du jour où il les délivra de l’ennemi.

 42 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

43 Comment il avait effectué ses signes en Égypte, et ses prodiges dans le champ de Zoan:

 43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

44 Et comment il avait changé leurs fleuves en sang; et leurs torrents, si bien qu’ils ne pouvaient pas boire.

 44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

45 Il envoya différentes sortes de mouches parmi eux, qui les dévorèrent et des grenouilles qui les détruisirent.

 45 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

46 Il donna aussi leur récolte aux chenilles, et leur travail aux locustes.

 46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

47 Il détruisit leurs vignes par la grêle, et leurs sycomores par la gelée.

 47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

48 Il abandonna aussi leur bétail à la grêle, et leurs troupeaux aux foudres étincelantes;

 48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

49 Il jeta sur eux la férocité de sa colère, le courroux, et l’indignation, et l’inquiétude, en envoyant des anges de malheur parmi eux.

 49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

50 Il fraya un chemin à sa colère; il n’épargna pas leur âme de la mort, mais livra leur vie à la pestilence;

 50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

51 Et frappa tous les premiers-nés en Égypte; la majorité de leur vigueur dans les tabernacles de Ham:

 51 And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

52 Mais il fit partir son propre peuple comme des moutons, et les guida dans le désert comme un troupeau.

 52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

53 Et il les conduisit en sûreté, afin qu’ils ne craignent pas: mais la mer submergea leurs ennemis.

 53 And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

54 Et il les amena à la frontière de son sanctuaire, c’est-à-dire à cette montagne, laquelle sa main droite avait acquise.

 54 And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

55 Il chassa aussi les païens devant eux, et leur divisa un patrimoine suivant la lignée, et fit demeurer les tribus d’Israël dans leurs tentes.

 55 He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

56 Cependant ils tentèrent et provoquèrent le plus haut Dieu, et ne gardèrent pas ses témoignages:

 56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

57 Mais ils revinrent en arrière et agirent infidèlement comme leurs pères: ils furent écartés comme un arc trompeur.

 57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

58 Car ils le provoquèrent à la colère par leurs hauts lieux, et excitèrent sa jalousie par leurs images taillées.

 58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

59 Lorsque Dieu l’entendit, il fut courroucé, et abhorra grandement Israël:

 59 When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

60 Si bien qu’il abandonna le tabernacle de Silo, la tente qu’il dressa parmi les hommes;

 60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

61 Et livra sa vigueur à la captivité, et sa gloire en la main de l’ennemi.

 61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy’s hand.

62 Il abandonna son peuple à l’épée; et fut courroucé contre son patrimoine.

 62 He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

63 Le feu consuma leurs jeunes hommes; et leurs jeunes filles ne furent pas données en mariage.

 63 The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

64 Leurs prêtres tombèrent par l’épée; et leurs veuves ne se lamentèrent pas.

 64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

65 Alors le Seigneur se réveilla comme quelqu’un sortant de son sommeil, et comme un homme puissant crie à cause du vin.

 65 Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

66 Et il frappa ses ennemis au postérieur: et les fit devenir un outrage perpétuel.

 66 And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

67 De plus il rejeta le tabernacle de Joseph, et ne choisit pas la tribu d’Ephraïm:

 67 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

68 Mais choisit la tribu de Judah, le mont Sion qu’il aima.

 68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

69 Et il bâtit son sanctuaire comme des palais élevés, comme la terre qu’il a établie pour toujours:

 69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

70 Il choisit aussi David son serviteur, et le prit des parcs à moutons.

 70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

71 Il le chercha d’où il gardait les brebis en gestation pour nourrir Jacob, son peuple, et Israël son patrimoine.

 71 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

72 Ainsi il les nourrit suivant l’intégrité de son cœur; et les guida avec l’adresse de ses mains.

 72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
