1 Et après ces choses je vis un autre ange descendre du ciel, ayant grand pouvoir; et la terre fut éclairée de sa gloire.

 1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

2 Et il cria puissamment d’une forte voix, disant: Babylone la grande est tombée, elle est tombée, et est devenue l’habitation des diables, et un repaire de tout esprit abominable, et une cage de tout oiseau impur et haineux.

 2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

3 Car toutes les nations ont bu du vin du courroux de sa fornication, et les rois de la terre ont commis fornication avec elle, et les marchands de la terre se sont enrichis au moyen de l’abondance de ses gâteries.

 3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

4 Et j’entendis une autre voix depuis le ciel, disant: Sortez du milieu d’elle, mon peuple, afin que vous ne soyez pas participants de ses péchés, et que vous ne receviez pas de ses plaies.

 4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

5 Car ses péchés sont parvenus jusqu’au ciel, et Dieu s’est souvenu de ses iniquités.

 5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

6 Rendez-lui comme elle vous a donné, et doublez-lui son double selon ses œuvres: dans la coupe qu’elle a remplie, remplissez-lui au double.

 6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

7 Autant elle s’est glorifiée, et a vécu voluptueusement, autant de tourment et de tristesse donnez-lui: car elle dit en son cœur, Je suis assise en tant que reine, et ne suis pas veuve, et je ne verrai aucune tristesse.

 7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

8 Par conséquent ses plaies viendront en un seul jour, mort, et deuil, et famine; et elle sera entièrement brûlée par le feu: car fort est le Seigneur Dieu qui la juge.

 8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

9 Et les rois de la terre, qui ont commis fornication et qui ont vécu voluptueusement avec elle, la déploreront, et se lamenteront sur elle, lorsqu’ils verront la fumée de son embrasement,

 9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,

10 Se tenant loin par crainte de son tourment, disant: Hélas, hélas, cette grande ville Babylone, cette puissante ville! car en une heure ton jugement est venu.

 10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

11 Et les marchands de la terre pleureront et mèneront deuil sur elle; car personne n’achète plus leur marchandise:

 11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

12 La marchandise d’or et d’argent, de pierres précieuses, et de perles, et de fin lin, et de pourpre, et de soie, et d’écarlate, et tout bois de sandaraque, et toutes sorte d’objets d’ivoire et toute sorte d’objets en bois très précieux, et de cuivre, de fer et de marbre,

 12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,

13 Et de la cannelle, et des fragrances, et des baumes, et de l’encens, et du vin, et de l’huile, et de la fine farine, et du blé, et du bétail, et des moutons et des chevaux, et des chariots et des esclaves, et des âmes d’hommes.

 13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

14 Et les fruits que ton âme convoitait se sont éloignés de toi, et toutes les choses qui étaient délicates et attrayantes t’ont quittées, et tu ne les retrouveras plus du tout.

 14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.

15 Les marchands de ces choses, lesquels furent enrichis par elle, se tiendront loin d’elle par crainte de son tourment, pleurant et gémissant,

 15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

16 Et disant: Hélas, hélas, cette grande ville, qui était vêtue de fin lin, et de pourpre et d’écarlate, et ornée d’or, de pierres précieuses, et de perles!

 16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

17 Car en une heure une telle grande richesse est anéantie. Et tout capitaine, et tous ceux sur les navires, et les matelots, et tous ceux qui commercent sur la mer, se tenaient loin,

 17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

18 Et ils s’écriaient lorsqu’ils virent la fumée de son embrasement, disant: Quelle ville est semblable à cette grande ville!

 18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

19 Et ils jetaient de la poussière sur leurs têtes, et s’écriaient, pleurant et gémissant, disant: Hélas, hélas, cette grande ville, où furent rendus riches tous ceux qui avaient des navires sur la mer à cause de son opulence! car en une heure elle a été dévastée.

 19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

20 Réjouis-toi sur elle, toi ciel, et vous saints apôtres, et prophètes; car Dieu vous a vengés d’elle.

 20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

21 Et un ange puissant prit une pierre semblable à une grande meule de moulin, et la jeta dans la mer, disant: Ainsi sera précipitée avec violence cette grande ville Babylone, et ne sera plus jamais trouvée.

 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

22 Et le son des harpistes, et des musiciens, et des flûtistes, et des trompettistes ne sera plus du tout entendu au milieu de toi; et aucun artisan, de quelque métier qu’il soit, ne se trouvera plus en toi; et le bruit d’une meule ne sera plus du tout entendu en toi;

 22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

23 Et la lumière d’une bougie ne brillera plus du tout en toi; et la voix de l’époux et de l’épouse ne sera plus du tout entendue en toi: car tes marchands étaient les grands hommes de la terre; car par tes sorcelleries toutes les nations furent trompées.

 23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

24 Et en elle fut trouvé le sang des prophètes, et des saints, et de tous ceux qui furent tués sur la terre.

 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
