1 Je dis la vérité en Christ, je ne mens pas, ma conscience aussi me rendant témoignage en l’Esprit Saint,

 1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

2 Que j’ai une grande tristesse et une continuelle douleur dans mon cœur.

 2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

3 Car je pourrais souhaiter que moi-même je sois séparé de Christ pour mes frères, ma parenté selon la chair:

 3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

4 Qui sont Israélites; auxquels appartiennent l’adoption, et la gloire, et les alliances, et la dotation de la loi, et le service de Dieu, et les promesses;

 4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

5 De qui sont les pères, et desquels quant à la chair Christ est venu, qui est sur tout, Dieu béni pour toujours. Amen.

 5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

6 Pas comme si la parole de Dieu ait été sans effet. Car ils ne sont pas tous Israël, ceux qui sont d’Israël:

 6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

7 Ni non plus, parce qu’ils sont la semence d’Abraham, sont-ils tous enfants: mais, En Isaac ta semence sera appelée.

 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

8 C’est-à-dire, Ceux qui sont les enfants de la chair, ceux-là ne sont pas les enfants de Dieu: mais les enfants de la promesse sont comptés pour la semence.

 8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

9 Car ceci est la parole de la promesse, À cette époque viendrai-je, et Sara aura un fils.

 9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.

10 Et non seulement cela; mais lorsque Rébecca aussi conçut d’un, c’est-à-dire de notre père Isaac;

 10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

11 (Car les enfants n’étant pas encore nés, n’ayant fait aucun bien ni mal, afin que le dessein de Dieu selon l’élection puisse se maintenir, non des œuvres, mais de celui qui appelle);

 11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

12 Il lui fut dit, L’aîné servira le plus jeune.

 12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13 Comme il est écrit, Jacob je l’ai aimé, mais Esaü.je l’ai haï

 13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14 Que dirons-nous alors? Y a-t-il de l’injustice avec Dieu? Dieu nous en garde:

 14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15 Car il dit à Moïse, J’aurai miséricorde pour qui j’aurai miséricorde, et j’aurai compassion pour qui j’aurai compassion.

 15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16 Ainsi donc, cela n’est ni de celui qui veut, ni de celui qui court, mais de Dieu qui montre miséricorde.

 16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

17 Car l’écriture dit à Pharaon, Pour ce dessein même que je t’ai suscité, afin que je puisse montrer mon pouvoir en toi, et afin que mon nom puisse être déclaré à travers toute la terre.

 17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

18 Par conséquent fait-il miséricorde pour celui pour qui il veut faire miséricorde, et pour celui pour lequel il le veut il endurcit.

 18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

19 Tu me diras alors: Pourquoi trouve-t-il encore une faute? Car qui a résisté à sa volonté?

 19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?

20 Non, mais, Ô homme, qui es-tu, toi qui répliques contre Dieu? La chose formée dira-t-elle à celui qui l’a formée, Pourquoi m’as-tu faite ainsi?

 20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

21 Le potier n’a-t-il pas pouvoir sur l’argile, pour d’une même masse faire un vase destiné à l’honneur, et un autre au déshonneur?

 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

22 Qu’est-ce si Dieu, voulant montrer son courroux, et faire connaître son pouvoir, endura avec beaucoup de longanimité les vases de courroux propres à la destruction:

 22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

23 Et pour qu’il puisse faire connaître la richesse de sa gloire sur les vases de miséricorde, lesquels il a d’avance préparés vers la gloire,

 23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

24 Même nous, lesquels il a appelés, non d’entre les Juifs seulement, mais aussi d’entre les Gentils?

 24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

25 Comme il dit aussi en Osée, Je les appellerai mon peuple, lesquels n’étaient pas mon peuple; et sa bien-aimée, laquelle n’était pas bien-aimée.

 25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.

26 Et il arrivera, que dans le lieu où il leur a été dit, Vous n’êtes pas mon peuple; là ils seront appelés les enfants du Dieu vivant.

 26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

27 Ésaïe aussi s’écrie concernant Israël, Bien que le nombre des enfants d’Israël soit tout autant que le sable de la mer, un reste sera sauvé.

 27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

28 Car il fuira l’œuvre, et l’écourtera avec droiture: parce que le Seigneur fera une œuvre courte sur la terre.

 28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

29 Et comme Ésaïe avait dit auparavant, Sauf si le Seigneur des Sabaoth ne nous avait laissé une semence, nous aurions été comme Sodome, et nous aurions été faits semblables à Gomorrhe.

 29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

30 Que dirons-nous alors? Que les Gentils, qui ne poursuivaient pas la droiture, sont parvenus à la droiture, c’est-à-dire la droiture laquelle provient de la foi.

 30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

31 Mais Israël, qui poursuivait la loi de droiture, n’est pas parvenu à la loi de droiture.

 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

32 Pourquoi cela? Parce qu’ils ne la cherchèrent pas par la foi, mais comme si elle provenait des œuvres de la loi. Car ils trébuchèrent contre cette pierre d’achoppement;

 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

33 Comme il est écrit, Voici, je mets en Sion une pierre d’achoppement et un roc qui offense: et quiconque croit en lui, ne sera pas honteux.

 33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
