1 Puis Naomi (Noémie), sa belle-mère, lui dit : Ma fille, ne te chercherai-je pas du repos, afin qu’il te soit fait du bien ?
|
1 Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
|
2 Et maintenant, Boaz, avec les jeunes filles duquel tu as été, n’est-il pas notre parent ? Voici, il vanne cette nuit les orges qui sont dans l’aire.
|
2 And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
|
3 C’est pourquoi lave-toi, et oins-toi, et mets sur toi ton vêtement, et descends vers l’aire ; mais ne te fais pas connaître à l’homme, jusqu’à ce qu’il ait achevé de manger et de boire.
|
3 Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
|
4 Et il arrivera, quand il se couchera, tu remarqueras le lieu où il se couchera, et tu entreras, et découvriras ses pieds, et tu te coucheras ; et il te dira ce que tu auras à faire.
|
4 And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
|
5 Et elle lui dit : Tout ce que tu me dis, je le ferai.
|
5 And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
|
6 ¶ Et elle descendit à l’aire, et fit selon ce que sa belle-mère lui avait commandé.
|
6 ¶ And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
|
7 Et Boaz mangea et but, et son cœur était heureux, et il alla se coucher au bout d’un tas de grains et elle vint tout doucement, et découvrit ses pieds, et se coucha.
|
7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
|
8 ¶ Et il arriva à minuit, que l’homme eut peur, et se tourna, et voici, une femme était couchée à ses pieds.
|
8 ¶ And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
|
9 Alors il lui dit : Qui es-tu ? Et elle répondit : Je suis Ruth, ta servante. Étends le pan de ta robe sur ta servante ; car tu as droit de rachat.
|
9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
|
10 Et il dit : Bénie sois-tu du SEIGNEUR, ma fille : car tu as montré plus de bonté à la fin qu’au commencement, en ce que tu n’es pas allée après les jeunes gens, pauvres ou riches.
|
10 And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
|
11 Et maintenant, ma fille, n’aie pas peur, je te ferai tout ce que tu demandes ; car toute la ville de mon peuple sait que tu es une femme vertueuse.
|
11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
|
12 Et maintenant, il est vrai que j’ai droit de rachat ; néanmoins il y en a un autre, qui est plus proche que moi.
|
12 And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
|
13 Reste ici cette nuit, et quand viendra le matin, s’il veut user envers toi du droit de rachat, bien, qu’il en use ; mais s’il ne lui plaît pas d’user envers toi du droit de rachat, alors j’userai du droit de rachat envers toi ; de même que le SEIGNEUR est vivant. Reste couchée jusqu’au matin.

13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
|
14 ¶ Et elle demeura couchée à ses pieds jusqu’au matin ; et elle se leva avant qu’on puisse se reconnaître l’un l’autre. Et il dit : Qu’on ne sache pas qu’une femme est venue dans l’aire.
|
14 ¶ And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
|
15 Il dit aussi : Donne-moi l’écharpe que tu as sur toi, et tiens-la. Et quand elle la tint, il mesura six mesures d’orge, et les chargea sur elle ; puis elle rentra dans la ville.
|
15 Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
|
16 Et quand elle vint chez sa belle-mère, laquelle lui dit : Qui es-tu, ma fille ? Et elle lui raconta tout ce que l’homme avait fait pour elle.
|
16 And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
|
17 Et elle dit : Il m’a donné ces six mesures d’orge ; car il m’a dit : Tu ne retourneras pas à vide vers ta belle-mère.
|
17 And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
|
18 Alors dit-elle : Ma fille, reste ici jusqu’à ce que tu saches comment la chose tournera ; car l’homme n’aura pas de repos jusqu’à ce qu’il ait achevé l’affaire aujourd’hui.
|
18 Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
