1 Puis Boaz monta à la porte, et s’y assit ; et voici, celui qui avait le droit de rachat dont Boaz avait parlé, vint à passer ; et Boaz lui dit : Toi, un tel ! Détourne-toi, et assieds-toi ici. Et il se détourna, et s’assit.

 1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.

2 Alors il prit dix hommes, d’entre les anciens de la ville, et dit : Asseyez-vous ici. Et ils s’assirent.

 2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.

3 Puis il dit à celui qui avait le droit de rachat : Naomi (Noémie), qui est revenue de la contrée de Moab, veut vendre une parcelle de terre qui appartenait à Elimelech (Élimélec) .notre frère.

 3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s:

4 Et j’ai pensé qu’il fallait te le faire savoir, disant : Achète-la, en présence des habitants et en présence des anciens de mon peuple. Si tu veux la racheter, rachète-la ; mais si tu ne veux pas la racheter, alors dis-le-moi, afin que je le sache ; car il n’y a personne d’autre que toi pour la racheter, et je suis après toi. Et il dit : Je la rachèterai.

 4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.

5 Alors Boaz dit : Au jour que tu achèteras le champ, de la main de Naomi (Noémie), tu devras l’acheter aussi de Ruth, la Moabite, la femme du défunt, pour susciter le nom du défunt dans son héritage.

 5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

6 Et celui qui avait le droit de rachat dit : Je ne peux pas le racheter pour moi, de peur que je ne galvaude mon héritage ; toi, prends pour toi mon droit de rachat ; car je ne peux pas le racheter.

 6 ¶ And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.

7 Or c’était la coutume autrefois en Israël concernant le rachat et concernant l’échange, pour confirmer toutes choses, un homme ôtait sa chaussure et la donnait à son voisin ; et c’était un témoignage en Israël.

 7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.

8 C’est pourquoi l’homme qui avait le droit de rachat dit à Boaz : Achète-le pour toi ; et il ôta sa chaussure.

 8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.

9 ¶ Et Boaz dit aux anciens et à tout le peuple : Vous êtes aujourd’hui témoins que j’ai acheté de la main de Naomi (Noémie) tout ce qui appartenait à Elimelech (Élimélec), et tout ce qui était à Chilion (Kilion) et à Mahlon ;

 9 ¶ And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi.

10 De plus je me suis acquis pour femme Ruth, la Moabite, la femme de Mahlon, pour susciter le nom du défunt sur son héritage, afin que le nom du défunt ne soit pas retranché d’entre ses frères, et de la porte de sa ville ; vous en êtes témoins aujourd’hui.

 10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.

11 Et tout le peuple qui était à la porte, et les anciens, dirent : Nous en sommes témoins. Le SEIGNEUR fasse que la femme qui entre dans ta maison, soit comme Rachel et comme Leah (Léa), qui toutes deux ont bâti la maison d’Israël et porte-toi dignement en Ephratah, et deviens célèbre dans Bethléhem ;

 11 And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:

12 Et que de ta semence que le SEIGNEUR te donnera par cette jeune femme, ta maison soit comme la maison de Pharez (Pérets), que Tamar enfanta à Judah (Juda).

 12 And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

13 ¶ Ainsi Boaz prit Ruth et elle fut sa femme ; et quand il alla vers elle, le SEIGNEUR lui donna de concevoir, et elle enfanta un fils.

 13 ¶ So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.

14 Et les femmes dirent à Naomi (Noémie) : Béni soit le SEIGNEUR, qui ne t’a pas laissée manquer aujourd’hui d’un homme qui ait le droit de rachat, afin que son nom puisse être célèbre en Israël.

 14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.

15 Et il sera pour te restaurer ta vie, et pour t’entretenir en ta vieillesse ; car ta belle-fille, qui t’aime, laquelle vaut mieux pour toi que sept fils, l’a enfanté.

 15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.

16 Et Naomi (Noémie) prit l’enfant, et le mit dans son sein, et elle fut sa nourrice.

 16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.

17 Et les voisines lui donnèrent un nom, disant : Un fils est né à Naomi (Noémie) : et elles l’appelèrent du nom d’Obed ; il est le père de Jesse, le père de David.

 17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

18 ¶ Or, ce sont ici les générations de Pharez (Pérets) : Pharez (Pérets) engendra Hezron (Hetsron) ;

 18 ¶ Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

19 Hezron (Hetsron) engendra Ram, et Ram engendra Amminadab ;

 19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,

20 Et Amminadab engendra Nahshon (Nahasshon) ; et Nahshon (Nahasshon) engendra Salmon ;

 20 And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

21 Et Salmon engendra Boaz ; et Boaz engendra Obed ;

 21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,

22 Et Obed engendra Jesse (Isaï), et Jesse (Isaï) engendra David.

 22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
