1 Or il y avait un certain homme de Ramathaimzophim (Ramathaïm-Tsophim), du mont Ephraim (Éphraïm), et son nom était Elkanah, le fils de Jeroham, fils d’Elihu, fils de Tohu, fils de Zuphan (Tsuph), un Ephrathite (Éphratien).

 1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

2 Et il avait deux femmes ; le nom de l’une était Hannah (Anne), et le nom de l’autre Peninnah ; et Peninnah avait des enfants, mais Hannah (Anne) n’avait pas d’enfants.

 2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

3 Et cet homme montait tous les ans de sa ville, pour adorer et pour sacrifier au SEIGNEUR des armées, à Shiloh (Silo). Et les deux fils d’Eli, Hophni et Phinehas (Phinées), les prêtres du SEIGNEUR, étaient là.

 3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

4 ¶ Et quand arrivait le moment où Elkanah offrait, il donnait des portions à Peninnah (Péninna) sa femme, et à tous les fils et filles qu’il avait d’elle.

 4 ¶ And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

5 Mais à Hannah (Anne) il donnait une honorable portion, car il aimait Hannah (Anne) ; mais le SEIGNEUR avait fermé son utérus.

 5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

6 Et sa rivale la provoquait sévèrement, afin de la chagriner, parce que le SEIGNEUR avait fermé son utérus.

 6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

7 Et ainsi faisait-il chaque année, quand elle montait à la maison du SEIGNEUR, Peninnah (Péninna) la provoquait ainsi ; c’est pourquoi Hannah (Anne) pleurait, et ne mangeait pas.

 7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 Alors Elkanah son mari lui disait : Hannah (Anne), pourquoi pleures-tu ? Et pourquoi ne manges-tu pas ? Et pourquoi ton cœur est-il triste ? Ne suis-je pas mieux, pour toi, que dix fils ?

 8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 ¶ Et Hannah (Anne) se leva après avoir mangé et bu à Shiloh (Silo). Or Eli le prêtre était assis sur un siège près d’un des poteaux du temple du SEIGNEUR.

 9 ¶ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

10 Et elle avait l’amertume dans l’âme, et pria le SEIGNEUR, et pleura beaucoup.

 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

11 Et elle fit un vœu, et dit : Ô SEIGNEUR des armées, si tu veux expressément regarder l’affliction de ta servante, et souviens-toi de moi, et n’oublies pas ta servante, mais donnes à ta servante un enfant mâle, alors je le donnerai au SEIGNEUR pour tous les jours de sa vie, et le rasoir ne passera pas sur sa tête.

 11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

12 Et il arriva, comme elle continuait à prier devant le SEIGNEUR, qu’Eli observait sa bouche ;

 12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

13 Or, Hannah (Anne) parlait dans son cœur, remuant seulement ses lèvres, mais on n’entendait pas sa voix Eli pensa qu’elle était ivre.

 13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

14 Et Eli lui dit : Jusqu’à quand seras-tu ivre ? Décharge-toi de ton vin.

 14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

15 Et Hannah (Anne) répondit, et dit : Non, mon seigneur ; je suis une femme à l’esprit affligé ; je n’ai bu ni vin ni boisson forte, mais je répandais mon âme devant le SEIGNEUR.

 15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

16 Ne traite pas ta servante pour une fille de Belial ; car c’est dans la grandeur de ma douleur et de ma peine que j’ai parlé jusqu’à présent.

 16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

17 Alors Eli répondit, et dit : Va en paix, et que le Dieu d’Israël t’accorde ta requête que tu lui as demandée.

 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

18 Et elle dit : Que ta servante trouve grâce en ta présence. Ainsi la femme alla son chemin, et mangea, et son visage n’était plus triste.

18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

19 ¶ Après cela, ils se levèrent de bonne heure le matin, et adorèrent le SEIGNEUR, puis ils s’en retournèrent, et arrivèrent à leur maison, à Ramah ; et Elkanah connut Hannah (Anne) sa femme ; et le SEIGNEUR se souvint d’elle.

 19 ¶ And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

20 Il arriva donc, quand le moment fut venu après qu’Hannah (Anne) eut conçu, qu’elle enfanta un fils, et appela son nom Samuel disant, parce que je l’ai demandé du SEIGNEUR.

 20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

21 Et Elkanah, son mari, monta, avec toute sa maison, pour offrir au SEIGNEUR le sacrifice annuel, et son vœu.

 21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

22 Mais Hannah (Anne) n’y monta pas ; car elle dit à son mari : Je ne monterai pas jusqu’à ce que l’enfant soit sevré, et alors je le mènerai, afin qu’il soit présenté devant le SEIGNEUR, et qu’il y demeure à toujours.

 22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

23 Et Elkanah, son mari, lui dit : Fais ce qui te semble bon ; attends jusqu’à ce que tu l’aies sevré ; seulement, que le SEIGNEUR confirme sa parole. Ainsi la femme demeura, et allaita son fils, jusqu’à ce qu’elle l’eût sevré.

 23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

24 ¶ Et dès qu’elle l’eut sevré, elle le prit avec elle, ainsi que trois taurillons, et un épha de farine, et une bouteille de vin ; et elle le mena dans la maison du SEIGNEUR, à Shiloh (Silo) ; et l’enfant était jeune.

 24 ¶ And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

25 Et ils égorgèrent un taurillon, et amenèrent l’enfant à Eli.

 25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

26 Et elle dit : Oh mon seigneur, aussi vrai que ton âme est vivante, mon seigneur, je suis la femme qui se tenait ici près de toi priant le SEIGNEUR.

 26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

27 Pour cet enfant j’ai prié, et le SEIGNEUR m’a accordé ma requête que je lui ai demandée.

 27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

28 C’est pourquoi, je l’ai prêté au SEIGNEUR ; aussi longtemps qu’il vivra, il sera prêté au SEIGNEUR. Et il adora là le SEIGNEUR.

 28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.
