1 Et Hannah (Anne) pria, et dit : Mon cœur se réjouit dans le SEIGNEUR ; ma corne est exaltée dans le SEIGNEUR ; ma bouche s’est élargie sur mes ennemis ; parce que je me réjouis en ton salut.

 1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

2 Nul n’est saint comme le SEIGNEUR ; car il n’y en a pas d’autre que toi, et il n’y a pas de roc comme notre Dieu.

 2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

3 Ne parlez plus si orgueilleusement ; ne laissez pas l’arrogance sortir de votre bouche ; car le SEIGNEUR est un Dieu de connaissance ; et par lui les actions sont pesées.

 3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

4 Les arcs des hommes puissants sont brisés, et ceux qui trébuchaient sont ceints de vigueur.

 4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

5 Ceux qui étaient rassasiés se sont loués pour du pain, et ceux qui étaient affamés ont cessé de l’être ; si bien que même la stérile en a enfanté sept, et celle qui a beaucoup d’enfants est devenue affaiblie.

 5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

6 Le SEIGNEUR fait mourir et fait vivre ; il fait descendre dans la tombe, et en fait remonter.

 6 The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

7 Le SEIGNEUR appauvrit et enrichit, il abaisse et il élève.

 7 The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

8 Il fait lever le pauvre de la poussière, et soulève le mendiant du tas de fumier, pour les établir parmi les princes, et leur fait hériter le trône de gloire ; car les piliers de la terre sont au SEIGNEUR, et il a posé le monde sur eux.

 8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.

9 Il gardera les pieds de ses saints, et les malveillants se tairont dans les ténèbres ; car l’homme ne prévaudra pas par force.

 9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

10 Les adversaires du SEIGNEUR seront brisés en morceaux ; du ciel il tonnera sur eux ; le SEIGNEUR jugera les bouts de la terre ; et il donnera vigueur à son roi, et il exaltera la corne de son oint.

 10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

11 Et Elkanah s’en alla à Ramah à sa maison. Et l’enfant resta au service du SEIGNEUR, en présence d’Eli, le prêtre.

 11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

12 ¶ Or les fils d’Eli étaient des fils de Belial ; ils ne connaissaient pas le SEIGNEUR.

 12 ¶ Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

13 Et la coutume des prêtres à l’égard du peuple était que, quand quelqu’un offrait un sacrifice, le serviteur du prêtre venait pendant qu’on faisait bouillir la chair, ayant une fourchette à trois dents en sa main ;

 13 And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

14 Et il la piquait dans la poêle, ou dans la marmite, ou dans le chaudron, ou dans le pot ; le prêtre prenait pour lui tout ce que la fourchette enlevait. C’est ainsi qu’ils faisaient à tous ceux d’Israël qui venaient là, à Shiloh (Silo).

 14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

15 Même avant qu’on brûle la graisse, le serviteur du prêtre venait, et disait à l’homme qui sacrifiait : Donne de la chair à rôtir pour le prêtre ; car il ne prendra pas de la chair bouillie de toi, mais de la chair crue.

 15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

16 Et si l’homme lui disait : Qu’on ne manque pas de brûler la graisse, et ensuite prends-en autant que ton âme désire, alors il lui dirait : Non ; mais tu m’en donneras maintenant ; et sinon j’en prendrai de force.

 16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

17 C’est pourquoi le péché de ces jeunes hommes était très grand devant le SEIGNEUR ; car les hommes méprisaient l’offrande du SEIGNEUR.

 17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

18 ¶ Or Samuel servait devant le SEIGNEUR, étant un enfant, ceint d’un éphod de lin.

 18 ¶ But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

19 De plus sa mère lui faisait un petit manteau, et le lui apportait chaque année, quand elle montait avec son mari pour offrir le sacrifice annuel.

 19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

20 Et Eli bénit Elkanah et sa femme, et dit : Que le SEIGNEUR te donne semence de cette femme, pour le prêt qui est fait au SEIGNEUR. Et ils retournèrent à leur maison.

 20 ¶ And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

21 Et le SEIGNEUR visita Hannah, si bien qu’elle conçut et enfanta trois fils et deux filles. Et l’enfant Samuel grandissait devant le SEIGNEUR.

 21 And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

22 ¶ Or Eli était très âgé, et il apprit tout ce que ses fils faisaient à tout Israël, et comment ils couchaient avec les femmes qui s’assemblaient à la porte du tabernacle de la congrégation.

 22 ¶ Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

23 Et il leur dit : Pourquoi faites-vous de telles choses ? Car j’apprends de vos mauvaises actions par tout le peuple ;

 23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

24 Non, mes fils ; car ce n’est pas un bon témoignage ce que j’entends ; vous faites transgresser le peuple du SEIGNEUR.

 24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’S people to transgress.

25 Si un homme pèche contre un autre homme, le juge le jugera ; mais si un homme pèche contre le SEIGNEUR, qui interviendra pour lui ? Néanmoins ils n’écoutèrent pas la voix de leur père, parce que le SEIGNEUR voulait les faire mourir.

 25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

26 Et l’enfant Samuel grandissait, et jouissait de la faveur du SEIGNEUR et des hommes.

 26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

27 ¶ Et un homme de Dieu vint vers Eli, et lui dit : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Ne me suis-je pas clairement manifesté à la maison de ton père, quand ils étaient en Égypte, dans la maison de Pharaon ?

 27 ¶ And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house?

28 Et ne l’ai-je pas choisi parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël, pour être mon prêtre, pour offrir sur mon autel, pour brûler l’encens, pour porter l’éphod devant moi ? Et n’ai-je pas donné à la maison de ton père toutes les offrandes des enfants d’Israël faites par le feu ?

 28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

29 Pourquoi regimbez-vous contre mon sacrifice et contre mon offrande, que j’ai commandé de faire dans mon habitation ; et tu honores tes fils plus que moi, pour vous engraisser du meilleur de toutes les offrandes d’Israël, mon peuple ?

 29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

30 C’est pourquoi, le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, dit : J’avais certainement dit que ta maison et la maison de ton père marcheraient devant moi à toujours ; mais maintenant le SEIGNEUR dit : Loin de moi cette pensée ; car j’honorerai ceux qui m’honorent, et ceux qui me méprisent seront estimés légèrement.

 30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

31 Voici, les jours viennent que je couperai ton bras, et le bras de la maison de ton père, en sorte qu’il n’y aura pas d’homme âgé dans ta maison.

 31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father’s house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

32 Et tu verras un ennemi dans mon habitation dans toute la richesse que Dieu donnera à Israël, et il n’y aura plus d’homme âgé dans ta maison à toujours.

 32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

33 Et celui des tiens que je ne retrancherai pas d’auprès de mon autel sera pour affaiblir tes yeux et affliger ton cœur ; et tous les enfants de ta maison mourront à la fleur de l’âge.

 33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

34 Et ceci t’en sera un signe ce qui arrivera à tes deux fils, à Hophni et Phinehas (Phinées) ; ils mourront tous deux le même jour.

 34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

35 Et je me susciterai un prêtre fidèle, qui fera selon ce qui est en mon cœur et en ma pensée ; et je lui bâtirai une maison stable, et il marchera devant mon oint à toujours.

 35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

36 Et il arrivera que quiconque sera resté de ta maison, viendra se tapir devant lui, pour une pièce d’argent et un morceau de pain, et dira : Mets-moi, je te prie, dans une des fonctions du prêtre, afin que je puisse manger un morceau de pain.

 36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
