1 Et les Philistins prirent l’arche de Dieu, et l’emmenèrent d’Ebenezer à Ashdod.
|
1 And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.
|
2 Lorsque les Philistins prirent l’arche de Dieu, ils l’emmenèrent dans la maison de Dagon, et la placèrent près de Dagon.
|
2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
|
3 ¶ Et lorsque le lendemain, les habitants d’Ashdod se levèrent de bonne heure, voici, Dagon était tombé sur sa face contre terre, devant l’arche du SEIGNEUR. Et ils prirent Dagon, et le remirent à sa place.
|
3 ¶ And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
|
4 Et lorsqu’ils se levèrent de bonne heure le lendemain, voici, Dagon était tombé, sur sa face contre terre, devant l’arche du SEIGNEUR ; et la tête de Dagon et les deux paumes de ses mains coupées étaient sur le seuil ; seulement le tronc de Dagon, lui était resté.

4 And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
|
5 C’est pour cela que les prêtres de Dagon, et tous ceux qui entrent dans sa maison ne marchent pas sur le seuil de Dagon, à Ashdod, jusqu’à ce jour.

5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
|
6 Mais la main du SEIGNEUR s’appesantit sur les habitants d’Ashdod, et il les détruisit, et les frappa d’hémorroïdes à Ashdod même et dans ses confins.
|
6 But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.
|
7 Et lorsque les hommes d’Ashdod virent qu’il en était ainsi, ils dirent : L’arche du Dieu d’Israël ne demeurera pas chez nous ; car sa main s’est alourdie sur nous et sur Dagon, notre dieu.
|
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
|
8 C’est pourquoi ils envoyèrent et assemblèrent vers eux tous les seigneurs des Philistins, et dirent : Que ferons-nous de l’arche du Dieu d’Israël ? Et ils répondirent : Qu’on transporte l’arche du Dieu d’Israël à Gath. Et ils y transportèrent l’arche du Dieu d’Israël.

8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

9 Et il arriva qu’après qu’ils l’aient transportée, la main du SEIGNEUR fut sur la ville avec une très grande destruction, et il frappa les hommes de la ville, depuis le petit jusqu’au grand, et ils eurent des hémorroïdes dans leurs parties cachées.
|
9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
|
10 ¶ C’est pourquoi ils envoyèrent l’arche de Dieu à Ekron (Hékron). Et il arriva, comme l’arche de Dieu entrait à Ekron, que les Ekronites s’écrièrent, en disant : Ils ont transporté vers nous l’arche du Dieu d’Israël, pour nous faire mourir, nous et notre peuple.

10 ¶ Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.
|
11 Alors ils envoyèrent, et rassemblèrent tous les seigneurs des Philistins, et dirent : Renvoyez l’arche du Dieu d’Israël, et qu’elle retourne en son lieu, afin qu’elle ne nous fasse pas mourir, nous et notre peuple. Car il y avait une destruction mortelle à travers toute la ville ; la main de Dieu s’y était fort alourdie.

11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
|
12 Et les hommes qui ne mouraient pas, étaient frappés d’hémorroïdes ; et le cri de la ville montait jusqu’au ciel.
|
12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
