1 Et Samuel dit à tout Israël : Voici, j’ai écouté votre voix dans tout ce que vous m’avez dit, et j’ai établi un roi sur vous ;

 1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.

2 Et maintenant, voici, le roi marche devant vous je suis vieux, et ai les cheveux blancs ; et voici, mes fils sont avec vous ; et moi, j’ai marché devant vous depuis mon enfance jusqu’à ce jour.

 2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.

3 Me voici, témoignez contre moi devant le SEIGNEUR et devant son oint. De qui ai-je pris le bœuf ? Et de qui ai-je pris l’âne ? Ou à qui ai-je fait tort ? Qui ai-je opprimé ? Ou de la main de qui ai-je été soudoyé pour fermer mes yeux sur lui ? et je vous le restituerai.

 3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

4 Et ils dirent : Tu ne nous as pas fait tort, et tu ne nous as pas opprimés, et tu n’as rien pris de la main de personne non plus.

 4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man’s hand.

5 Alors il leur dit : Le Seigneur est témoin contre vous, et son oint est témoin aujourd’hui, que vous n’avez rien trouvé dans ma main. Et Ils répondirent : Il en est témoin.

 5 And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

6 ¶ Et Samuel dit au peuple : C’est le SEIGNEUR qui a élevé Moïse et Aaron, et qui a fait monter vos pères hors du pays d’Égypte.

 6 ¶ And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

7 Maintenant donc, ne bougez pas, afin que je puisse plaider avec vous, devant le SEIGNEUR concernant toutes les actions droites du SEIGNEUR, lesquelles il a faites envers vous et à vos pères.

 7 Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

8 Après que Jacob fut entré en Égypte, et que vos pères crièrent au SEIGNEUR, et le SEIGNEUR envoya Moïse et Aaron, qui firent sortir vos pères hors d’Égypte et les firent demeurer en ce lieu.

 8 When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

9 Et quand ils oublièrent le SEIGNEUR leur Dieu, il les vendit en la main de Sisera, capitaine de l’armée de Hazor, et en la main des Philistins, et en la main du roi de Moab, et ils se battirent contre eux.

 9 And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

10 Et ils crièrent au SEIGNEUR, et dirent : Nous avons péché ; car nous avons abandonné le SEIGNEUR, et nous avons servi les Baalim et les Ashtaroth ; mais maintenant, délivre-nous de la main de nos ennemis, et nous te servirons.

 10 And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

11 Et le SEIGNEUR envoya Jerubbaal, et Bedan, et Jephthah, et Samuel, et il vous délivra de la main de vos ennemis, qui vous environnaient, et vous êtes demeurés en sécurité.

 11 And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.

12 Et lorsque vous avez vu que Nahash le roi des enfants d’Ammon, venait contre vous, vous m’avez dit : Non, mais un roi règnera sur nous ; bien que le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu était votre roi.

 12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.

13 Maintenant donc, voici le roi que vous avez choisi, et que vous avez désiré ; et voici, le SEIGNEUR a établi un roi sur vous.

 13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.

14 Si vous craignez le SEIGNEUR, et que vous le serviez, et que vous obéissiez à sa voix, et que vous ne vous rebelliez pas au commandement du SEIGNEUR, alors vous et le roi qui règne sur vous, vous suivrez le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu ;

 14 If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:

15 Mais si vous n’obéissez pas à la voix du SEIGNEUR, et si vous vous rebellez contre le commandement du SEIGNEUR, alors la main du SEIGNEUR sera contre vous, comme elle a été contre vos pères.

 15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.

16 ¶ Maintenant donc attendez, et voyez cette grande chose que le SEIGNEUR va faire devant vos yeux.

 16 ¶ Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.

17 N’est-ce pas la moisson des blés aujourd’hui ? J’appellerai le SEIGNEUR, et il enverra tonnerre et pluie, afin que vous puissiez discerner et voir que votre malveillance que vous avez fait aux yeux du SEIGNEUR, est grand, en demandant un roi pour vous.

 17 Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.

18 Alors Samuel appela le SEIGNEUR, et le SEIGNEUR envoya tonnerre et pluie ce jour-là ; et tout le peuple craignit grandement le SEIGNEUR et Samuel.

 18 So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

19 Et tout le peuple dit à Samuel : Prie le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, pour tes serviteurs, afin que nous ne mourions pas ; car nous avons ajouté à tous nos autres péchés ce mal d’avoir demandé un roi pour nous.

 19 And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

20 ¶ Et Samuel dit au peuple : Ne craignez pas ; vous avez fait toute cette méchanceté ; néanmoins ne vous détournez pas de suivre le SEIGNEUR, mais servez le SEIGNEUR de tout votre cœur.

 20 ¶ And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;

21 Et ne vous détournez pas, car alors ce serait aller après de vaines choses, qui ne profitent ni ne délivrent, car elles sont vaines.

 21 And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

22 Car le SEIGNEUR n’abandonnera pas son peuple, pour l’amour de son grand nom ; parce qu’il a plu au SEIGNEUR à faire de vous son peuple.

 22 For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.

23 De plus, quant à moi, Dieu me garde que je pèche contre le SEIGNEUR, en cessant de prier pour vous ; mais je vous enseignerai le bon et droit chemin.

 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

24 Seulement craignez le SEIGNEUR, et servez-le en vérité, de tout votre cœur ; car considérez les grandes choses qu’il a faites pour vous.

 24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

25 Mais si vous persévérez à agir avec perversité, vous serez anéantis, vous et votre roi.

 25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
