1 David donc partit de là, et se sauva dans la caverne d’Adullam ; et quand ses frères et toute la maison de son père l’apprirent, ils descendirent là vers lui.

 1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him.

2 Et quiconque était dans la détresse, et quiconque avait des dettes, et quiconque était mécontent, s’assembla vers lui, et il devint leur capitaine ; et il y eut avec lui environ quatre cents hommes.

 2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

3 ¶ Et David s’en alla de là à Mizpeh (Mitspa) de Moab ; et il dit au roi de Moab : Veuille laisser mon père et ma mère, je te prie, sortirent et se retirer chez vous jusqu’à ce que je sache ce que Dieu fera de moi.

 3 ¶ And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

4 Et il les amena devant le roi de Moab, et ils demeurèrent avec lui tout le temps que David fut dans la forteresse.

 4 And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.

5 ¶ Et Gad, le prophète, dit à David : Ne demeure pas dans cette forteresse ; va t’en, et entre au pays de Judah (Juda). David s’en alla donc, et vint dans la forêt de Hareth.

 5 ¶ And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.

6 ¶ Lorsque Saul apprit qu’on avait découvert David, et les hommes qui étaient avec lui, (or Saul demeurait à Gibeah (Guibeah), sous un arbre à Ramah, sa lance à la main, et tous ses serviteurs se tenaient auprès de lui).

 6 ¶ When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)

7 Alors Saul dit à ses serviteurs : qui se tenaient autour de lui : Écoutez, vous Benjamites ; le fils de Jesse donnera-t-il à chacun de vous, des champs et des vignes, et vous établira-t-il tous, capitaines de milliers et de centaines ;

 7 Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds;

8 Que vous ayez tous conspiré contre moi, et qu’il n’y ait personne qui ne m’avertisse que mon fils a fait alliance avec le fils de Jesse, et qu’il n’y ait aucun de vous qui soit inquiet à mon sujet, et ne m’avertisse que mon fils a soulevé mon serviteur contre moi pour me dresser des embûches, comme il le fait aujourd’hui ?

 8 That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

9 ¶ Alors Doeg, l’Edomite, qui était établi sur les serviteurs de Saul, répondit, et dit : J’ai vu le fils de Jesse venir à Nob, vers Ahimelech, le fils d’Ahitub,

 9 ¶ Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

10 Et il a interrogé le SEIGNEUR pour lui, et lui a donné des vivres, et il lui a donné l’épée de Goliath, le Philistin.

 10 And he enquired of the LORD for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.

11 Alors le roi envoya appeler Ahimelech, le fils d’Ahitub, le prêtre, et toute la maison de son père, les prêtres qui étaient à Nob ; et ils vinrent tous vers le roi.

 11 Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.

12 Et Saul dit : Écoute maintenant, toi, fils d’Ahitub. Et il répondit : Me voici, mon seigneur.

 12 And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

13 Et Saul lui dit : Pourquoi avez-vous conspiré contre moi, toi et le fils de Jesse, quand tu lui as donné du pain et une épée, et que tu as interrogé Dieu pour lui, afin qu’il se soulève contre moi pour me dresser des embûches, comme il le fait aujourd’hui ?

 13 And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast enquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

14 Et Ahimelech répondit au roi, et dit : Et qui, parmi tous tes serviteurs, est aussi fidèle que David, qui est gendre du roi, et qui va à ton ordre, et qui est honoré dans ta maison ?

 14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king’s son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house?

15 Ai-je commencé alors à interroger Dieu pour lui ? Loin de moi cette pensée ; que le roi n’impute rien à son serviteur, ni à toute la maison de mon père ; car ton serviteur ne savait aucune chose de tout ceci, ni petite ni grande.

 15 Did I then begin to enquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.

16 Et le roi dit : Tu mourras, assurément, Ahimelec, toi et toute la maison de ton père.

 16 And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father’s house.

17 ¶ Et le roi dit aux valets de pieds qui se tenaient autour de lui : Tournez-vous, et tuez les prêtres du SEIGNEUR ; parce que leur main est avec David, et parce qu’ils ont su quand il s’enfuyait, et ne m’en ont pas averti. Mais les serviteurs du roi ne voulurent pas porter leur main pour se jeter sur les prêtres du SEIGNEUR.

 17 ¶ And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.

18 Et le roi dit à Doeg : Tourne-toi, et jette-toi sur les prêtres. Et Doeg, l’Edomite, se tourna, et se jeta sur les prêtres, et tua, ce jour-là, quatre-vingt-cinq hommes portant l’éphod de lin.

 18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.

19 Et il fit passer Nob, la ville des prêtres, par le tranchant de l’épée, hommes et femmes, enfants et ceux qui tètent, bœufs, et ânes, et moutons, par le tranchant de l’épée.

 19 And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

20 ¶ Et l’un des fils d’Ahimelech, le fils d’Ahitub, qui s’appelait Abiathar, s’échappa et s’enfuit après David.

 20 ¶ And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

21 Et Abiathar rapporta à David, que Saul avait tué les prêtres du SEIGNEUR.

 21 And Abiathar shewed David that Saul had slain the LORD’S priests.

22 Et David dit à Abiathar : Je le savais ce jour-là, lorsque Doeg, l’Edomite, était là, qu’il ne manquerait pas de le dire à Saul. Je suis cause de la mort de toutes les personnes de la maison de ton père ;

 22 And David said unto Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father’s house.

23 Demeure avec moi ; ne crains pas ; car celui qui cherche ma vie cherche ta vie ; mais avec moi tu seras en ma sauvegarde.

 23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.
