1 Et on rapporta à David, disant : Voici, les Philistins se battent contre Keilah, et ils pillent les aires.

 1 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.

2 C’est pourquoi David interrogea le SEIGNEUR, disant : Dois-je aller frapper ces Philistins ? Et le SEIGNEUR dit à David : Va, et frappe les Philistins, et sauve Keilah.

 2 Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

3 Et les hommes de David lui dirent : Voici, nous avons peur ici en Judah (Juda) ; combien plus si nous allons à Keilah, contre les armées des Philistins ?

 3 And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

4 Alors David interrogea encore le SEIGNEUR ; et le SEIGNEUR lui répondit, et dit : Lève-toi, descends à Keilah ; car je livrerai les Philistins en ta main.

 4 Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

5 Puis David et ses hommes allèrent à Keilah et combattirent les Philistins, et emmenèrent leur bétail, et les frappa d’un grand carnage. Ainsi David sauva les habitants de Keilah.

 5 So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

6 Or, quand Abiathar, fils d’Ahimelech, s’enfuit vers David à Keilah, il y descendit, ayant l’éphod entre les mains.

 6 And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

7 ¶ Et on raconta à Saul que David était venu à Keilah. Et Saul dit : Dieu l’a livré en ma main ; car il s’est enfermé en entrant dans une ville qui a portes et barres.

 7 ¶ And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.

8 Et Saul appela tout le peuple à la guerre, pour descendre à Keilah, afin d’assiéger David et ses hommes.

 8 And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

9 ¶ Et David savait que Saul méditait secrètement contre lui, et il dit au prêtre Abiathar : Apporte l’éphod.

 9 ¶ And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

10 Puis David dit : Ô SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, ton serviteur a assurément entendu dire que Saul cherche à venir contre Keilah, pour détruire la ville à cause de moi ;

 10 Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

11 Les hommes de Keilah me livreront-ils en sa main ? Saul descendra-t-il, comme ton serviteur l’a entendu dire ? Ô SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, je t’implore, dis à ton serviteur. Et le SEIGNEUR dit : Il descendra.

 11 Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.

12 Alors David dit : Les hommes de Keilah me livreront-ils, moi et mes hommes, en la main de Saul ? Et le SEIGNEUR dit : Ils te livreront.

 12 Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up.

13 ¶ Alors David et ses hommes, qui étaient environ six cents hommes, se levèrent et partirent de Keilah, et s’en allèrent où ils purent. Et on rapporta à Saul que David s’était échappé de Keilah ; et il cessa de marcher.

 13 ¶ Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.

14 Et David habita dans le désert, dans des lieux forts, et il resta dans la montagne, au désert de Ziph. Et Saul le cherchait chaque jour ; mais Dieu ne le livra pas en sa main.

 14 And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

15 Et David vit que Saul était sorti pour chercher sa vie, et David se tenait dans le désert de Ziph, dans un bois.

 15 And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

16 ¶ Et Jonathan, le fils de Saul, se leva, et alla vers David, dans le bois, et fortifia sa main en Dieu ;

 16 ¶ And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

17 Et il lui dit : N’aie pas peur ; car la main de Saul, mon père, ne te trouvera pas, et tu seras roi sur Israël, et moi je serai le second après toi ; et cela, Saul, mon père, le sait aussi.

 17 And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.

18 Et ils firent, tous deux, une alliance devant le SEIGNEUR, et David habita dans le bois, et Jonathan retourna en sa maison.

 18 And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

19 ¶ Puis les Ziphites montèrent vers Saul à Gibeah (Guibeah), disant : David ne se tient-il pas caché parmi nous, dans les lieux forts, dans le bois, sur la colline de Hachilah, qui est au Sud de Jeshimon ?

 19 ¶ Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?

20 Maintenant donc, ô roi, descends selon tout le désir de ton âme de descendre, et ce sera à nous de le livrer en la main du roi.

 20 Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand.

21 Et Saul dit : Que vous soyez bénis du SEIGNEUR, de ce que vous avez eu pitié de moi.

 21 And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.

22 Allez, je vous prie, préparez d’avantage, et sachez et voyez le lieu où est son repaire, et qui l’y a vu ; car on m’a dit qu’il agit très finement.

 22 Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.

23 Voyez donc et remarquez toutes les cachettes où il se cache, puis revenez vers moi, quand vous en serez certains, et j’irai avec vous ; s’il est dans le pays, je le chercherai soigneusement dans tous les milliers de Judah (Juda).

 23 See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

24 Et ils se levèrent et s’en allèrent à Ziph, devant Saul ; mais David et ses hommes étaient dans le désert de Maon, dans la plaine, au Sud de Jeshimon.

 24 And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.

25 Et Saul et ses hommes allèrent pour le chercher. Et on le rapporta à David, c’est pourquoi il descendit le rocher et habita dans le désert de Maon. Quand Saul l’apprit, il poursuivit David dans le désert de Maon.

 25 Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

26 Et Saul allait d’un côté de la montagne, et David et ses hommes de l’autre côté de la montagne ; et David se hâtait de fuir par peur de Saul ; car Saul et ses hommes entouraient David et ses hommes pour les prendre,

 26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.

27 ¶ Mais arriva un messager vers Saul, disant : Hâte-toi, et viens ; car les Philistins ont envahis le pays.

 27 ¶ But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

28 C’est pourquoi Saul s’arrêta de poursuivre David, et alla à la rencontre des Philistins. C’est pourquoi l’on a appelé ce lieu-là, Selahammahlekoth.

 28 Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth.

29 ¶ Et David monta de là, et demeura dans les lieux forts d’Engedi (Enguedi).

 29 ¶ And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at Engedi.
