1 Or il y eut une longue guerre entre la maison de Saul (Saül) et la maison de David ; mais David se fortifiait de plus en plus, et la maison de Saul (Saül) s’affaiblissait de plus en plus.

 1 Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

2 ¶ Et il naquit des fils à David, à Hebron (Hébron) ; son premier-né fut Amnon, d’Ahinoam (Akhinoam) la Jezreelite (Jizreélite) ;

 2 ¶ And unto David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;

3 Son deuxième, Chileab (Kileab), d’Abigail, la femme de Nabal, la Carmelite ; et le troisième, Absalom, fils de Maacah, la fille de Talmai, roi de Geshur (Gueshur) ;

 3 And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

4 Le quatrième, Adonijah, le fils de Haggith (Hagguith) ; et le cinquième, Shephatiah, le fils d’Abital ;

 4 And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;

5 Et le sixième, Ithream (Jithream), d’Eglah, femme de David. Ceux-là naquirent à David, à Hebron (Hébron).

 5 And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David’s wife. These were born to David in Hebron.

6 ¶ Et il arriva que, pendant qu’il y avait guerre entre la maison de Saul (Saül) et la maison de David, Abner se rendit fort en la maison de Saul (Saül).

 6 ¶ And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.

7 Et Saul (Saül) avait eu une concubine dont le nom était Rizpah (Ritspa) la fille d’Aiah (Aïa) ; et Ishbosheth dit à Abner : Pourquoi es-tu allé vers la concubine de mon père ?

 7 And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ishbosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father’s concubine?

8 Et Abner fut fort irrité des paroles d’Ishbosheth, et lui dit : Suis-je une tête de chien, moi qui contre Judah, fait preuve aujourd’hui de bonté envers la maison de Saul (Saül), ton père, envers ses frères et ses amis, et qui ne t’ai pas livré en la main de David, que tu me charges aujourd’hui d’une faute concernant cette femme ?

 8 Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ishbosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?

9 Que Dieu fasse ainsi à Abner, et plus encore, si je ne fais à David comme le SEIGNEUR lui a juré,

 9 So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;

10 En faisant passer le royaume de la maison de Saul (Saül), et en établissant le trône de David sur Israël et sur Judah, depuis Dan jusqu’à Beersheba.

 10 To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba.

11 Et Ishbosheth ne put répondre un mot à Abner, parce qu’il le craignait.

 11 And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.

12 ¶ Et Abner envoya des messagers à David, de sa part, disant : À qui est le pays ? disant aussi : Fais une ligue avec moi ; et voici, ma main sera avec toi pour amener à toi tout Israël.

 12 ¶ And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.

13 ¶ Et il dit : Bien, je ferai une ligue avec toi ; seulement je te demande une chose, c’est que tu ne verras pas ma face, avant que tu ne m’aies amené Michal, la fille de Saul (Saül), quand tu viendras pour voir ma face.

 13 ¶ And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul’s daughter, when thou comest to see my face.

14 Alors David envoya des messagers à Ishbosheth, fils de Saul (Saül), pour lui dire : Rends-moi ma femme Michal, que j’ai épousée pour cent prépuces de Philistins.

 14 And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul’s son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.

15 Et Ishbosheth envoya et la prit à son mari, savoir de Phaltiel, le fils de Laish.

 15 And Ishbosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.

16 Et son mari s’en alla avec elle, pleurant en la suivant jusqu’à Bahurim (Bakhurim). Puis Abner lui dit : Va, retourne. Et il retourna.

 16 And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.

17 ¶ Et Abner communiqua avec les anciens d’Israël, disant : Vous cherchiez autrefois David pour qu’il soit roi sur vous ;

 17 ¶ And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you:

18 Maintenant donc, faites-le ; car le SEIGNEUR a parlé de David et a dit : Par la main de mon serviteur David, je sauverai mon peuple Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis.

 18 Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.

19 Et Abner parla aussi aux oreilles de Benjamin ; et Abner alla aussi parler aux oreilles de David, à Hebron (Hébron), de tout ce qui semblait bon à Israël et de tout qui semblait bon à toute la maison de Benjamin.

 19 And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.

20 Abner vint donc vers David à Hebron (Hébron), et vingt hommes avec lui. Et David fit un festin à Abner et aux hommes qui étaient avec lui.

 20 So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.

21 Et Abner dit à David : Je me lèverai, et je m’en irai rassembler tout Israël vers mon seigneur, le roi, afin qu’ils fassent une ligue avec toi, et que tu règnes sur tout ce que ton cœur désire. Et David renvoya Abner, et il s’en alla en paix.

 21 And Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.

22 ¶ Et voici, les serviteurs de David et Joab revenaient de poursuivre une troupe, et amenaient avec eux un grand butin ; mais Abner n’était plus avec David à Hebron (Hébron) ; car il l’avait renvoyé, et il était parti en paix.

 22 ¶ And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.

23 Quand Joab, et toute l’armée qui était avec lui revint, on rapporta à Joab en disant : Abner, le fils de Ner, est venu vers le roi, et il l’a laissé partir, et il est parti en paix.

 23 When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace.

24 Alors Joab vint vers le roi, et dit : Qu’as-tu fait ? Voici, Abner est venu vers toi ; pourquoi est-ce que tu l’as renvoyé, et qu’il soit parti ainsi ?

 24 Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?

25 Tu connais Abner, le fils de Ner, qu’il est venu pour te tromper, et pour connaître tes allées et venues, et pour savoir tout ce que tu fais.

 25 Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest.

26 Et quand Joab eut quitté David, il envoya après Abner des messagers qui le ramenèrent du puits de Sirah, mais David ne le savait pas.

 26 And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.

27 Et quand Abner fut revenu à Hebron (Hébron), Joab le prit à part, à l’intéreur de la porte, pour lui parler tranquillement, et là, il le frappa sous la cinquième côte, si bien qu’il mourut, à cause du sang d’Asahel son frère.

27 And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

28 ¶ Et ensuite quand David l’apprit, il dit : Moi et mon royaume sommes innocents devant le SEIGNEUR, pour toujours, du sang d’Abner, le fils de Ner.

 28 ¶ And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:

29 Que ce sang repose sur la tête de Joab, et sur toute la maison de son père ; et que la maison de Joab ne soit jamais sans quelque homme ayant un flux, ou la lèpre, ou qui s’appuie sur un bâton, ou qui tombe par l’épée, ou qui manque de pain.

 29 Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father’s house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.

30 Ainsi Joab et Abishai, son frère, tuèrent Abner, parce qu’il avait tué Asahel, leur frère, à Gibeon (Guibéon), dans la bataille.

 30 So Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.

31 ¶ Et David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui : Déchirez vos vêtements et ceignez-vous de sacs, et menez deuil devant Abner. Et le roi David lui-même suivit le cercueil.

 31 ¶ And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.

32 Et ils enterrèrent Abner à Hebron (Hébron), et le roi éleva sa voix et pleura sur la tombe d’Abner ; et tout le peuple pleura.

 32 And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.

33 Et le roi fit une lamentation sur Abner, et dit : Abner est-il mort comme meurt un insensé ?

 33 And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?

34 Tes mains n’étaient pas liées, ni tes pieds mis dans les fers ; tu es tombé comme un homme tombe devant les pervers. Et tout le peuple pleura encore sur lui.

 34 Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him.

35 Et quand tout le peuple vint pour faire prendre quelque nourriture à David, pendant qu’il faisait encore jour, David jura, disant : Que Dieu me fasse ainsi et plus encore, si avant que le soleil descende, je goûte du pain ou quelque autre chose.

 35 And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.

36 Et tout le peuple le remarqua, et cela leur plut ; et tout ce que faisait le roi, plaisait au peuple.

 36 And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.

37 Car en ce jour-là, tout le peuple et tout Israël comprirent que ce n’était pas par ordre du roi qu’on avait fait mourir Abner, le fils de Ner.

 37 For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.

38 Et le roi dit à ses serviteurs : Ne savez-vous pas qu’un prince, et un grand homme, est tombé aujourd’hui en Israël ?

 38 And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?

39 Et je suis faible aujourd’hui, bien que j’aie été oint roi ; et ces hommes, les fils de Zeruiah, sont trop durs pour moi. Que le SEIGNEUR rende à celui qui a fait le mal, selon sa perversité.

 39 And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.
