1 Et David dit au SEIGNEUR les paroles de ce cantique, au jour où le SEIGNEUR l’eut délivré de la main de tous ses ennemis, et de la main de Saul (Saül).

 1 And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

2 Et il dit : Le Seigneur est mon roc, et ma forteresse et mon libérateur.

 2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

3 Le Dieu de mon roc, en lui je me confierai ; il est mon bouclier et la corne de mon salut, ma haute retraite et mon refuge, mon sauveur ; tu me sauves de la violence.

 3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

4 Je crierai au SEIGNEUR, qui est digne d’être loué, ainsi je serai sauvé de mes ennemis.

 4 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

5 Quand les flots de la mort m’ont environné, les torrents des impies m’ont fait peur ;

 5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

6 Les douleurs de l’enfer m’ont environné, les filets de la mort m’ont surpris.

 6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

7 Dans ma détresse, j’appelai le SEIGNEUR, et je criai à mon Dieu ; et de son temple, il entendit ma voix, et mon cri parvint à ses oreilles.

 7 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

8 Alors la terre fut secouée et trembla, les fondements du ciel se remuèrent et furent secoués, parce qu’il était en colère.

 8 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

9 Une fumée montait de ses narines, et de sa bouche un feu dévorant, des charbons en étaient embrasés.

 9 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

10 Il abaissa aussi les cieux, et descendit ; et une l’obscurité était sous ses pieds.

 10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.

11 Et il était monté sur un chérubin et volait ; et on le voyait sur les ailes du vent.

 11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

12 Et il mit autour de lui l’obscurité pour pavillons, des eaux sombres, et des nuages épais des ciels.

 12 And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.

13 Au travers de la brillance qui était devant lui, s’embrasèrent des charbons de feu.

 13 Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.

14 Le SEIGNEUR tonna du ciel, et le très-Haut fit retentir sa voix.

 14 The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.

15 Et il lança des flèches, et les dispersa ; des éclairs, et les mit en déroute.

 15 And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.

16 Et les lits de la mer apparurent, et les fondements du monde se découvrirent, par la menace du SEIGNEUR, par le souffle de l’haleine de ses narines.

 16 And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

17 Il envoya d’en haut, il me prit ; il me tira des grandes eaux.

 17 He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;

18 Il me délivra de mon puissant ennemi, et de ceux qui me haïssaient ; car ils étaient plus puissamnts que moi.

 18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

19 Ils m’avaient devancé au jour de ma calamité, mais le SEIGNEUR fut mon appui.

 19 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.

20 Il m’a emmené dans un endroit spacieux ; il m’a délivré, parce qu’il a pris plaisir en moi.

 20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

21 Le SEIGNEUR m’a rétribué selon ma rectitude ; il m’a récompensé selon la pureté de mes mains ;

 21 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

22 Car j’ai gardé les chemins du SEIGNEUR, et je ne me suis pas détourné perfidement de mon Dieu.

 22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

23 Car tous ses jugements ont été devant moi, et quant à ses statuts, je ne m’en suis pas écarté.

 23 For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.

24 J’ai été aussi intègre devant lui, et je me suis gardé de mon iniquité.

 24 I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

25 C’est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR m’a récompensé selon ma rectitude, selon ma pureté à ses yeux.

 25 Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.

26 Avec celui qui est miséricordieux, tu te montres miséricordieux, et avec l’homme intègre tu te montres intègre.

 26 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.

27 Avec l’homme pur, tu te montres pur ; et avec l’obstiné, tu te montres désagréable.

 27 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.

28 Et tu sauveras le peuple affligé ; mais tes yeux sont sur les hautains, afin que tu puisses les abaisser.

 28 And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

29 Car tu es ma lampe, ô SEIGNEUR ; et le SEIGNEUR fera reluire mon obscurité.

 29 For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.

30 Car par toi j’ai couru à travers une troupe ; par mon Dieu j’ai franchis une muraille.

 30 For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.

31 Quant à Dieu, son chemin est parfait ; la parole du SEIGNEUR est vérifiée ; il est un bouclier à tous ceux qui se confient en lui.

 31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

32 Car qui est Dieu, sinon le SEIGNEUR ? Et qui est un roc, sinon notre Dieu ?

 32 For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?

33 Dieu est ma vigueur et puissance, et il rend parfait mon chemin.

 33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

34 Il rend mes pieds semblables à ceux des biches, et m’établit sur mes lieux élevés ;

 34 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.

35 Il instruit mes mains à la guerre, de sorte qu’un arc d’acier est rompu avec mes bras.

 35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

36 Tu m’as aussi donné le bouclier de ton salut, et ta douceur m’a fait devenir grand.

 36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

37 Tu as élargi mes pas sous moi, de sorte que mes pieds n’ont pas glissé.

 37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.

38 J’ai poursuivi mes ennemis, et je les ai détruits ; et je ne m’en suis pas retourné jusqu’à ce que je les aie anéantis.

 38 I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.

39 Je les ai anéantis, et je les ai blessés, si bien qu’ils ne pouvaient plus se relever ; oui, ils sont tombés sous mes pieds.

 39 And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.

40 Car tu m’as ceint de vigueur pour la bataille ; tu as fait plier sous moi ceux qui s’élevaient contre moi.

 40 For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.

41 Tu m’as aussi donné la nuque de mes ennemis, tellement afin que je puisse détruire ceux qui me haïssent.

 41 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.

42 Ils regardent, mais il n’y en avait personne pour les sauver ; même vers le SEIGNEUR, mais il ne leur a pas répondu.

 42 They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.

43 Puis je les ai broyés menu comme la poussière de la terre, je les ai piétinés comme la boue des rues et les ai répandus au loin.

 43 Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

44 Tu m’as aussi délivré des dissensions de mon peuple, tu m’as gardé pour être à la tète des païens ; un peuple que je ne connaissais pas me servira.

 44 Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.

45 Les étrangers se soumettront à moi ; dès qu’ils entendront, ils m’obéiront.

 45 Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.

46 Les étrangers disparaîtront, et ils auront peur sortant de leurs lclos places fortes.

 46 Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.

47 Le SEIGNEUR est vivant, et béni soit mon roc ; et que soit exalté le Dieu du roc de mon salut.

 47 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

48 C’est Dieu qui me donne vengeance, et qui amène les peuples sous moi,

 48 It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,

49 Et qui me retire d’entre mes ennemis ; tu m’as aussi élevé au-dessus de ceux qui se sont dressés contre moi tu m’as délivré de l’homme violent.

 49 And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

50 C’est pourquoi, je te remercierai ô SEIGNEUR, parmi les païens, et je chanterai des louanges à ton nom.

 50 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

51 Il est la tour de salut pour son roi, et montre miséricorde à son oint, à David et à sa semence, pour toujours.

 51 He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.
