1 Or ce sont ici les dernières paroles de David. David, le fils de Jesse (Isaï), l’homme qui a été haut élevé, l’oint du Dieu de Jacob, et le douxPsalmiste d’Israël, a dit :

 1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

2 L’Esprit du SEIGNEUR a parlé par moi, et sa parole a été sur ma langue.

 2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

3 Le Dieu d’Israël a dit, le Roc d’Israël m’a parlé : Celui qui règne sur les hommes doit être juste, régnant dans la crainte de Dieu,

 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

4 Et il sera comme la lumière du matin, lorsque le soleil se lève, savoir, un matin sans nuages ; comme l’herbe tendre sortant de la terre à l’éclat brillant après la pluie.

 4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

5 Toutefois il n’en est pas ainsi de ma maison devant Dieu, néanmoins il a fait avec moi une alliance éternelle, ordonnée en toutes choses, et sure ; car c’est tout mon salut, et tout mon désir, bien qu’il ne la fasse pas croître.

 5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

6 ¶ Mais les fils de Belial seront tous comme des épines qu’on jette au loin, parce qu’on ne peut pas les prendre avec la main,

 6 ¶ But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

7 Mais l’homme qui les touchera doit se protéger de fer ou de la hampe d’une lance, et ils seront brûlés entièrement par le feu sur le lieu même.

 7 But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

8 ¶ Ce sont ici les noms des puissants hommes qu’avait David : Le Tachmonite qui s’assied sur le siège, chef parmi les capitaines ; ledit était Adino, l’Eznite, il leva sa lance sur huit cents hommes qu’il tua en une seule fois.

 8 ¶ These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.

9 Et après lui était Eleazar, le fils de Dodo, l’Ahohite, l’un des trois puissants hommes qui étaient avec David, lorsqu’ils défièrent les Philistins qui s’étaient assemblés pour combattre, et les hommes d’Israël se retirèrent.

 9 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:

10 Il se leva, et frappa les Philistins jusqu’à ce que sa main en soit lasse, et sa main demeura attachée à l’épée¸ et le SEIGNEUR accorda une grande victoire ce jour-là, et le peuple retourna après Eleazar, seulement pour piller.

 10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

11 Et après lui était Shammah, le fils d’Agee (Agué), le Hararite. Et les Philistins s’étaient rassemblés en une troupe ; et il y avait là une parcelle de terre pleine de lentilles ; et le peuple avait fui devant les Philistins ;

 11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.

12 Mais il se tint au milieu du champ, et le défendit, et frappa les Philistins ; et le SEIGNEUR accorda une grande victoire.

 12 But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

13 Et trois des trente chefs descendirent et vinrent, au temps de la moisson vers David, dans la caverne d’Adullam, lorsqu’une troupe de Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Rephaim.

 13 And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

14 Et David était alors dans un fort, et la garnison de Philistins était alors à Bethlehem.

 14 And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

15 Et David désira et dit : Ô que quelqu’un me donne à boire de l’eau du puits de Bethlehem qui est près de la porte ?

 15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

16 Et les trois puissants hommes passèrent à travers le camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l’eau du puits de Bethlehem, qui est près de la porte ; et la prirent et l’apportèrent à David ; néanmoins il n’en voulut pas boire, mais la répandit devant le SEIGNEUR.

 16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

17 Et il dit : Loin de moi, ô SEIGNEUR, que je fasse cela ; n’est-ce pas ceci le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie ? C’est pourquoi il ne voulut pas la boire. Ces trois puissants hommes firent ces choses.

 17 And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

18 Et Abishai, le frère de Joab, fils de Zeruiah, était le chef des trois. Et iI leva sa lance contre trois cents hommes, et les tua ; et il eut un renom parmi les trois.

 18 And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.

19 N’était-il pas le plus honorable des trois ? C’est pourquoi il fut leur capitaine ; cependant il n’égala pas les trois premiers.

19 Was he not most honourable of three? therefore he was their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first three.

20 Et Benaiah, le fils de Jehoiada, fils d’un homme vaillant, de Kabzeel, qui avait fait de nombreux exploits ; il tua deux hommes de Moab, puissants comme des lions ; il descendit aussi, et tua un lion au milieu d’une fosse, par un jour de neige.

 20 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:

21 Et il frappa un Égyptien, un homme robuste, et l’Égyptien avait en sa main une lance, mais Benaiah descendit contre lui avec un bâton, et arracha la lance de la main de l’Égyptien, et le tua avec sa propre lance.

 21 And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

22 Ce sont ces choses que fit Benaiah (Benaïa), fils de Jehoiada ; et il eut un nom parmi ces trois hommes puissants.

 22 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.

23 Il fut plus honoré que les trente ; mais il n’égalait pas les trois premiers. Et David l’établit sur sa garde.

 23 He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.

24 Asahel (Asçaël), le frère de Joab, était un des trente ; Elhanan (Elkhanan), le fils de Dodo, de Bethlehem ;

 24 Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

25 Shammah, le Harodite ; Elika, le Harodite ;

 25 Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,

26 Helez (Hélets), le Paltite ; Ira, le fils de Ikkesh, leTekoite (Thekohite) ;

 26 Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

27 Abiezer, l’Anethothite ; Mebunnai, le Hushathite ;

 27 Abiezer the Anethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

28 Zalmon (Tsalmon), l’Ahohite (Akhokhite) ; Maharai, le Netophathite ;

 28 Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

29 Heleb, le fils de Baanah, le Netophathite ; Ittai (Itthaï), le fils de Ribai de Gibeah (Guibha), des enfants de Benjamin ;

 29 Heleb the son of Baanah, a Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai out of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,

30 Benaiah (Benaïa), le Pirathonite ; Hiddai, des torrents de Gaash ;

 30 Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,

31 Abialbon, l’Arbathite ; Azmaveth, le Barhumite (Barkhumite) ;

 31 Abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

32 Eliahba (Éliakhba), le Shaalbonite ; des fils de Jashen, Jonathan ;

 32 Eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,

33 Shammah, l’Hararite ; Ahiam (Akhiam), le fils de Sharar, l’Hararite ;

 33 Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite,

34 Eliphelet, le fils d’Ahasbai (Akhasbaï), le fils d’un Maachathite (Maacathien) ; Eliam, le fils d’Ahithophel, (Akhitophel) le Gilonite (Guilonite) ;

 34 Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,

35 Hezrai (Hetsraï), le Carmelite ; Paarai, l’Arbite ;

 35 Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,

36 Igal (Jighal), le fils de Nathan, de Zobah (Tsoba) ; Bani, le Gadite ;

 36 Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite,

37 Zelek Tsélek), l’Ammonite ; Naharai (Nakharaï), le Beerothite (Beérothien), qui portait les armes de Joab, le fils de Zeruiah (Tseruïa) ;

 37 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, armourbearer to Joab the son of Zeruiah,

38 Ira, un Ithrite (Jéthrien) ; Gareb, un Ithrite (Jéthrien) ;

 38 Ira an Ithrite, Gareb an Ithrite,

39 Uriah (Urie), le Hittite ; en tout trente-sept.

 39 Uriah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.
