1 Que tous les serviteurs qui sont sous le joug estiment leurs propres maîtres dignes de tout honneur, afin que le nom de Dieu et sa doctrine ne soient pas blasphémés.

 1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

2 Et ceux qui ont des maîtres croyants, qu’ils ne les méprisent pas, parce qu’ils sont frères; mais plutôt qu’ils les servent, parce qu’ils sont fidèles et bien-aimés, participants du bienfait. Enseigne ces choses et exhorte.

 2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

3 Si un homme enseigne autrement, et ne consent pas aux saines paroles, c’est-à-dire les paroles de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, et à la doctrine laquelle est selon la piété;

 3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

4 Il est orgueilleux, ne sachant rien, mais raffole de questions et de querelles de mots, desquelles viennent envie, querelles, injures, mauvais soupçons,

 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5 Perverses disputes d’hommes aux intelligences corrompues, et privés de la vérité, supposant que le gain est la piété: retire-toi de ceux qui sont tels.

 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

6 Mais la piété avec le contentement est un grand gain.

 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 Car nous n’avons rien apporté dans ce monde, et il est certain que nous n’en pouvons rien emporter.

 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8 Et ayant nourriture et habillement, soyons satisfaits avec cela.

 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

9 Mais ceux qui veulent être riches tombent dans la tentation et dans un filet, et dans beaucoup de convoitises insensées et nuisibles, lesquelles noient les hommes dans la destruction et la perdition.

 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 Car l’amour de l’argent est la racine de tous les maux: que quelques-uns l’ayant convoité, ils se sont égarés de la foi, et se sont transpercés eux-mêmes de beaucoup de douleurs.

 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 Mais toi, Ô homme de Dieu, fuis ces choses; et poursuis droiture, piété, foi, amour, patience, soumission.

 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

12 Combats le bon combat de la foi, saisis la vie éternelle, à laquelle tu es aussi appelé, et as professé une belle profession devant beaucoup de témoins.

 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

13 Je te donne charge à la vue de Dieu, qui vivifie toutes choses, et devant Christ Jésus, qui témoigna devant Ponce Pilate d’une belle confession;

 13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

14 Que tu gardes ce commandement, sans tache, irrépréhensible, jusqu’à l’apparition de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ:

 14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

15 Qu’en son temps il montrera, qui est le béni et seul Potentat, le Roi des rois, et Seigneur des seigneurs;

 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

16 Qui seul possède l’immortalité, demeurant dans la lumière dont aucun homme ne peut s’approcher; lequel aucun homme n’a vu, ni ne peut voir: à qui soient honneur et pouvoir sans fin. Amen.

 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

17 Charge ceux qui sont riches dans ce monde, qu’ils ne soient pas hautains, qu’ils ne mettent pas non plus leur confiance dans une incertaine richesse, mais dans le Dieu vivant, qui nous donne richement toutes choses pour en jouir;

 17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

18 Qu’ils fassent du bien, qu’ils soient riches en bonnes œuvres, prêts à distribuer, disposés à transmettre;

 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

19 Faisant une provision pour eux-mêmes d’un bon fondement pour le temps à venir, afin qu’ils puissent saisir la vie éternelle.

 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

20 Ô Timothée, garde ce qui est confié à ta charge, évitant les profanes et vains babillages, et les oppositions d’une science faussement ainsi nommée:

 20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

21 Dont quelques-uns faisant profession ont erré concernant la foi. La grâce soit avec toi. Amen.

 21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
